What a guided day costs, line by line
We quote each guided day for your date and party rather than publish one number. This page shows every line that goes into a quote, what makes it go up or down, and the published market figures we could find.
Why the price is on request
A guided day has three moving parts: the guide's hours, the car if you want one, and where you are picked up. Each changes with the date and the party. A single headline price would either be too high for a couple doing a walking morning in Duong Dong or too low for five people with a car driving to Ganh Dau from Bai Khem. So you send the date and the plan, and we send one number in writing with everything it includes and excludes.
The quote is per booking, not per person. Two people and six people share the same guide; only the car size changes. That is why private guiding gets cheaper per head as the party grows, up to the point where one car is no longer enough.

What moves the price, most to least
- Car or no car. The single biggest line. A walking morning in Duong Dong needs none; the north and south days need one all day.
- Four hours or eight. An eight-hour guide fee is less than two four-hour fees, because the guide gives the whole day to you.
- Where you stay. Bai Dai in the north and Bai Khem in the south add an hour or more of road time to a day that starts in Duong Dong.
- Language. We plan in English. Another language depends on who is free; ask for availability and we will price it if we can cover it.
- Date. Around Lunar New Year and other national holidays our quotes are higher, and guides and cars book up early.
- Party size. It changes the car, not the guide. Up to seven travellers fit one guide and one car.

Typical market range for comparable services, from published sources listed below. It is not our price. Confirm before travel.
The US$53 listing is worth reading carefully. It is a driver-guide package: one person drives and also talks about the stops. That is a reasonable product for a relaxed island loop. It is not the same as a guide sitting with you while a separate driver handles the road, and it usually means the commentary happens in the car park rather than at the stop.

How a cheaper quote is usually made
If you are comparing us with a quote that is a quarter cheaper, check for these:
- A driver who also guides, rather than a guide plus a driver.
- A guide without a card, or with an on-site card being used away from the site it covers.
- Shopping stops that pay the guide a commission, written into the route as 'pearl centre' or 'local products'.
- Eight hours counted from the first hotel on a shared pick-up run, so your share of the day is shorter.
- Lunch for the guide and driver left for you to pay on the day.
None of these is a scam in itself. They are trade-offs, and you should know which ones you are buying.
What we leave out, and why
- Your meals. People eat very differently, and choosing on the day is part of the fun. The guide orders and translates.
- Tips. Not expected. If you want to tip, it goes directly to the guide and driver.
- Travel insurance. Buy it at home, where you can read the policy in your own language.
- Boats, theme parks and cable cars. Different operators, different safety rules; we do not resell them.

Common questions
Questions travellers ask most
Why might your quote be higher than others we have seen?
Usually because it includes a carded guide and a separate driver for the full block, the guide's and driver's lunch, and no commission stops. If another quote leaves one of those out, it will be cheaper, and that may be the right choice for you.
Do you charge per person?
No. One price per booking, for up to seven people. The car size changes with the party; the guide fee does not.
Which currency do you quote in?
We quote in US dollars; the quotation also explains how to pay.
Is there a minimum booking?
Four hours. Shorter jobs, such as a one-hour airport briefing, are not worth a guide's morning and we do not sell them.
