Private guides on Phu Quoc
Is a private guide worth it on an island this size?
If you only want a beach, no. If you want the prison, a pagoda, a market and a stretch of coast in one day without wasting time on closed doors and midday heat, a guide who plans the order saves more hours than the fee costs most parties.
Can the guide meet us without a car?
Yes. Guide-only bookings work well in Duong Dong on foot, or with a taxi or Grab you pay as you go. The guide can book the rides for you.
Which languages do your guides speak?
We plan in English. For other languages, ask for availability when you send the form; we will tell you plainly whether we can cover your date before you pay anything.
Do you sell boat trips or group tours?
No. Our bookings are private guided days on land. If you also want an island boat trip, book it with a boat operator directly.

Guided days
Can we join another family to share the cost?
Only if you already travel together and book as one party. We do not combine strangers into one guided day.
Can a four-hour day become an eight-hour day on the spot?
Sometimes, if the guide has no later booking. The extra hours are charged at the overtime rate on your quote, so it is cheaper to book eight hours if you think you will want them.
Is hotel pick-up included everywhere on the island?
Pick-up is included in Duong Dong, Ong Lang and Bai Truong. Bai Dai in the north and Bai Khem in the south add road time, which we price into the quote.
Do the sample days run on fixed dates?
No. Each is private and runs on the date you choose, subject to a guide and, if needed, a car being free.

Half-day private guide
Morning or afternoon: which is better for a half day?
Route A only works in the morning, because the market is busiest early. Routes B and C suit the afternoon: the prison's afternoon session starts at 13:30 and the east coast is pleasant late in the day.
Can children join?
Yes. Route A is flat and short. On route B, the stream is slippery after rain, so children stay in the shallows with an adult.
We have our own rental car. Can the guide ride with us?
Yes, choose guide only. The guide rides with you and navigates; whoever drives needs a licence that is valid in Vietnam.
What if it rains?
Short heavy showers are common from May to October. The guide moves covered stops first and waits out the worst; if the whole afternoon is lost to a storm, we offer another date for the unused hours.

North island day with car
Can we add VinWonders or the Safari to this day?
You can be dropped at either at the end of the day instead of returning to your hotel. Published adult tickets are VND 1,050,000 for VinWonders and VND 950,000 for the Safari (published prices, 2025 – 2026; confirm before travel). The guide does not go in unless you add the guide's ticket and time.
Is the forest walk difficult?
No. It is a short walk at the park edge on an uneven path. Anyone who can manage stairs and roots is fine.
Will we see starfish at Rach Vem?
Agency sources say they gather from about February to April. Outside those months, or after a storm, there may be few or none.
Can we start earlier?
Yes. A 07:00 start gives more time in the forest when it is cooler and returns you by 15:00.

South and heritage day
Is the prison suitable for teenagers?
Most teenagers handle it well with a guide who explains the context. The subject is wartime detention; the guide describes each room before you enter, so anyone can skip one.
Why visit the pagoda before the prison?
The pagoda opens at 06:00 and is pleasant early; the prison's morning session runs until about 11:00 or 11:30. Doing them in this order keeps both inside their best hours.
Is Bai Sao good to swim in all year?
It is calmest in the rainy-season months from May to October, when the southwest monsoon makes the west coast rough. In the dry season it is still calm most days but busier.
How many prisoners were held at Phu Quoc Prison?
Figures vary by source. One official newspaper gives about 14,000 for the French period of 1953 to 1954; larger totals for the whole war are widely repeated but not from an official museum source. Your guide will explain what the exhibition itself states.

Morning market and photo walk
Is the walk worth it without a serious camera?
Yes. Most guests use phones. The walk is about seeing the town at work; the photographs are a bonus.
Can we do this on our first morning after a late flight?
It is better on the second morning. A 05:15 meeting after a night arrival usually means a tired walk.
Does the market open every day?
Published hours are 05:00 to 19:00 daily. If you travel around Lunar New Year or another national holiday, check with us before booking the walk.
Can we add Ham Ninh for sunrise over the water?
Yes, as a car-based variation: Ham Ninh is about 14 to 15 km east of Duong Dong. It replaces Dinh Cau at dawn and adds the car to the quote.

Prices
Why might your quote be higher than others we have seen?
Usually because it includes a carded guide and a separate driver for the full block, the guide's and driver's lunch, and no commission stops. If another quote leaves one of those out, it will be cheaper, and that may be the right choice for you.
Do you charge per person?
No. One price per booking, for up to seven people. The car size changes with the party; the guide fee does not.
Which currency do you quote in?
We quote in US dollars; the quotation also explains how to pay.
Is there a minimum booking?
Four hours. Shorter jobs, such as a one-hour airport briefing, are not worth a guide's morning and we do not sell them.
Read in full: Prices.
How to book
How far ahead should we book?
A week ahead is comfortable for English-speaking guides outside holidays. For Lunar New Year, or for another language, write as early as you can.
Can we book after we arrive on the island?
Yes, if a guide is free. Send the form from your hotel; next-day bookings are often possible outside the peak weeks.
Do we get the guide's name and number before the day?
Yes. The confirmation gives the guide's name and how to reach them on the morning.
Can we change the route during the day?
Small changes, yes. A change to a different part of the island means a new programme; the guide messages us and we update it if time allows.

Areas
Which area suits a first visit?
Duong Dong, because it explains the rest of the island: fishing, the shrine, the market and the night market are all within walking distance.
Can we see two areas in one day?
In eight hours, yes: Duong Dong in the morning and the east coast in the afternoon works well. The north and the south together is too much driving for one day.
Where should we stay to use a guide?
Duong Dong, Ong Lang or Bai Truong are central, so pick-up is included and road time is short. Bai Dai and Bai Khem add road time to most routes.
Read in full: Areas.
Duong Dong
Is the night market the same as the Duong Dong market?
No. Duong Dong market is the daytime market, open from 05:00 to 19:00. The Bach Dang night market, formerly called the Dinh Cau night market, opens from 17:00 to 22:00. There is also a separate night market in Sunset Town in the south.
Can we visit Dinh Cau shrine as tourists?
Yes. Dress modestly, keep your voice down and do not photograph people praying without asking. A guide will tell you where to stand.
Do we need a guide in Duong Dong?
No, the town is easy on foot. A guide is useful at the market, where the guide can name and price what is on the trays, and at the shrine, where the meaning of the offerings is not obvious.
Is Duong Dong a good place to stay?
It is central, and pick-up for all our guided days is included. It is noisier than Ong Lang or Bai Truong.
Read in full: Duong Dong.
Ham Ninh and the east coast
Is Ham Ninh worth visiting if we do not eat seafood?
Less so. The village is pleasant for an hour's walk, but most of what draws people is the crab and sea urchin. Pair it with a forest stream to make the trip worthwhile.
Can we walk on the Ham Ninh pier?
Not at present. The old wooden jetty is closed because of damage.
Which stream is better, Suoi Tranh or Suoi Da Ban?
Suoi Tranh has more water from May to November. Suoi Da Ban runs clear in the dry months from November to April.
Is the east coast better in the rainy season?
For the sea, yes. From May to October the southwest monsoon makes the west coast rough while the east-coast beaches are calmer.

Ganh Dau and the north
Can we really see Cambodia from Ganh Dau?
You can see small islands on the Cambodian side from the cape. Agency sources put the border about 4 km away by sea.
When are the starfish at Rach Vem?
Agency sources give roughly February to April. Look without lifting them out of the water.
Is there an entrance fee for the national park?
Our sources do not state one for the park edge. Specific places inside, such as streams run as visitor sites, may charge a small ticket.
Is the north safe to explore on our own?
On main roads, yes. In the forest, our advice is to go with a local guide or stay in a group and carry water and a phone with location; agency advice is to cook nothing, carry rubbish out and avoid swimming in streams in the rainy season.

Guide licences in Vietnam
Can a foreigner who lives on Phu Quoc be our guide?
Not legally as a tour guide. A guide card requires Vietnamese nationality and permanent residence, and the 2019 penalties decree sets a fine for foreigners guiding in Vietnam.
Is a hotel driver who shows us around a guide?
Not in the legal sense, unless he also holds a guide card. A driver can take you places; a carded guide can explain them and is accountable to a travel business.
Does the guide need a card for a short walk in town?
The law draws no line by length. A guide working for a travel business wears the card whenever guiding.
What does an on-site guide do?
Guides visitors inside one tourist area or site, after passing a provincial test. You may meet one at an attraction; they do not run island-wide days.
Read in full: Guide licences in Vietnam.
Plan a guided day
Can we combine the north and the south in eight hours?
Not well. The two ends of the island are far apart by road and the day turns into driving. Split them across two days or choose one.
What if we want a beach in the middle of the day?
Beaches at midday mean strong sun; agency safety advice is to avoid swimming between 11:00 and 14:00. Put the beach after 14:00 and the indoor stops before.
Can the guide build a route around a restaurant we have read about?
Yes. Give us the name and we will place it where it fits. If it adds a long drive, we will say so.

About us
Are you a tour operator or a booking site?
We arrange private guided days directly: we assign the guide, write the programme and, when booked, provide the car and driver. We do not resell other companies' tours.
Can we request the same guide again for a second day?
Yes. Say so in the form and we will try to keep the same guide, subject to their schedule.
Do you offer guides for other parts of Vietnam?
No. We work on Phu Quoc only.

Contact
Can we phone you instead?
We handle enquiries through the form and reply by email, so the route and price are in writing. If you would like a call, add your number in the form and say when suits you.
How much detail should we include?
Date, party size and the kind of day are enough to start. Ages of children, mobility and diet help us get the plan right first time.
We have not had a reply. What now?
Check your spam folder first. If nothing is there, send the form again and check the email address carefully.
